Area of Study 1 - Applied Computing: Innovative Solutions

Overview

In this area of study, the focus is on identifying a problem, need or opportunity and developing an innovative digital solution collaboratively. The solution may take the form of a proof of concept, prototype or product, depending on what is suitable for the project.

The work draws on all stages of the problem-solving methodology. It includes investigating user needs, generating and representing design ideas, managing project progress, developing the solution, and evaluating how effectively it meets its purpose.

This area of study also examines how emerging technologies, digital systems, legislation and ethical issues affect innovation.

Outcome 1 On completion of this unit the student should be able to, in collaboration with other students, identify a problem, need or opportunity to analyse, design, develop and evaluate an innovative solution.
